The Altered Appliances project undertaken by students from The Piet Swart Institute, investigates how low-tech appliances can be repurposed into alternative design tools for new experiences in the kitchen. Students looked at the historical context of cooking utensils before creating their own appliances shown at Milan Design Week 2013.

Rollware (shown in this post) was the response by students Joanne Choueiri, Giulia Cosenza and Povilas Raskevicius, exploring surface design to create disposable crockery.
